It is with regret and a heavy heart that I am writing to you today to inform you that we will temporarily be closing our doors at SpinEtc.

Your health and safety is our absolute priority and with the current climate with COVID-19 and alongside guidance given by the UK Government, we will be closing our doors until further notice.
As you are aware, the situation in the UK is changing every single day and we will keep you updated of any changes that may occur as a result.

All classes already booked will be returned to your credits. We are currently looking at alternate options to keep you active during this time by means of outdoor small group PT sessions. Please bear with us and we will communicate whether this is possible very shortly.

In the meantime – please stay safe, stay in touch and let us know if there is anything we can do to keep you company over this difficult period.

Following our email last week, we would like to update you on the measures we are now taking in order to mitigate the risk of spread of COVID-19.

Until the decision is taken out of our hands, we are trying our very best to stay open and provide you with a service to keep you active during this difficult time.

We are doing everything we can to ensure that SpinEtc remains a safe and healthy space. In order to do this, we are now conducting daily deep cleans with further disinfection of studio and all equipment between every class.
As a result, we have unfortunately had to make the following changes:

1. ALL 6.30am classes will be cancelled until further notice.
2. We will not be holding any boxing classes (requiring gloves/pads). These will either be substituted with other classes or cancelled altogether until further notice.
3. Our monthly event for March will be cancelled.
4. Some of our day classes will be held outdoors.
5. Number of classes will be reduced.
6. Capacity within classes will be reduced.
7. There will never be a class immediately after a spin class.

Please have a look at our new timetable and book early to avoid disappointment. Please note that the timetable is constantly subject to change and we will inform you with as much notice where possible.

We would ask you if you can please continue to help us with the following:
Stay home if you are feeling unwell
wash your hands often – (when arriving at the studio; after using the bathroom; after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. This is particularly important after taking public transport
avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin.

Let’s talk mental health…

A topic that we do not often address as it is a very sensitive one but under no circumstances should it be swept under the rug.

Believe it or not but over 450 million people suffer with some sort of mental illness at one point throughout their lives, the severity will differ depending on the individual.
Some illnesses include, Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety & Anger Disorder and disorders that can affect your every day eating habits. 

(All of which are equally as important as the other)

There is a saying that I live by, “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, Be kind. Always” – some may agree others may have different opinions. My point is, to never judge or assume. Things are not always as they seem on the surface. Even the smallest acts of kindness go a long way.

Be there for your loved ones, friends, colleagues or even the stranger that choses to confide in you. 

Be that support or that listening ear.

Sometimes just being there for a person and giving them your time can help. No two people are the same, some may find it difficult to communicate or express themselves. But it’s more what you do as well as being present that counts and shows that individual that you care.

For those that may need to know this… it is ok to feel, to speak out and seek help. Seeking help is an act of braveness.

Melvin kicked-off the event with a “mini” Spin class, although it certainly didn’t feel mini in any way to those who took part! SpinEtc Squad member Natasha said: “I feel like he’s literally done a double session in 20 minutes!”.

After a short break, it was time for Munisha to take the reins with a 20 minute version of the TotalBody class. This non-stop combination of free-weight and bodyweight exercises made sure that everyone in the room worked up a sweat!

Afterwards, there were smoothie shots, delicious nibbles from Proteinhaus and, of course, some well-deserved celebratory bubbles.

The event was a great opportunity to celebrate what SpinEtc is all about – bringing together a supportive community of people who love to work out and have fun in the process.

Thank you to everyone who has supported SpinEtc over the last 6 months, and to those who were able to come along and help us celebrate!

Consuming too much sugar/ high processed “comfort foods” have also been linked to depression. It’s scary knowing that some of the foods we eat can have such a negative impact on our bodies as well as our mental health.

Research shows that too much added sugar can:

  • Increase kidney disease risk: Having high blood sugar levels can cause damage to the blood vessels in your kidneys.
  • Negatively impact dental health: Consuming excessive amounts of sugar can cause cavities.
  • Accelerate cognitive decline: High-sugar diets can impair your memory and increase the risk of developing dementia.

As humans we are very much aware of how detrimental sugar can be to our bodies, but we still fall into that trap and crave the odd fizzy drink or chocolate doughnut! It’s just soo darn addictive (sigh)

What can we do to change this?

A good place to start would be to cut down on your consumption of sugar filled drinks such as coke, energy drinks and fruit juices. Healthier alternatives would of course be water as water has zero calories or if you want to add a little flavour you could always try sparkling water with a few slices of lemon and lime or mint and cucumber… Which is really refreshing. Herbal and fruit teas are also great options but if you’re anything like me and you like a good coffee in the morning 😊 black coffee is definitely acceptable!

Another thing to avoid would be DESSERTS!! Which has to be everyones KRYPTONITE.. I mean who doesn’t love a tasty dessert?? If you do find yourself craving a sugary pud, grab a handful of fruit, low fat yoghurt or some dark chocolate instead.

Everything in moderation 😉 … And that’s just to name a few – The list is endless

Excessive amounts of sugar can leave you feeling tired, hungry not to mention absolutely MISERABLE. Be mindful of what you are eating, check food packaging labels for sugar and salt content and NEVER shop when you’re hungry!!

Another important factor to take in to consideration would be to ensure that you get a sufficient amount of sleep. It is essential to get a minimum of 8 hours sleep a night as that can also contribute towards ‘unnecessary snacking’. When you lack sleep your hormone levels change causing an imbalance and your body starts to release a hormone called ‘Serotonin’ which causes you to crave sweet things – Awful right??

To sum it up.. Sugar is evil lol, we may not be able to cut it out completely but by reducing our daily intake little but little, day by day, will make a huge difference.

It’s time to kickstart your fitness journey (if you haven’t already) and get down to SpinEtc to do so.

We aren’t just a spin studio, we are a bespoke studio in North West London, offering many types of classes from yoga to hiit to spin and pilates. Not only do we offer classes but our trainers and staff are here to help and give advice whenever you need it.

The special thing about our studio is that we pride ourselves on being a family, a community of likeminded individuals who simply want to be healthy, who want to be fit. So whatever the need, whatever questions you have, send them our way and we will be happy to help!

 

As you also know, we have a delicious smoothie bar for an after class nutrition boost. Our smoothies are made up of many tasty components but here’s some interesting information about a few:

 

Cacao is a superfood! It has 40 times the amount of antioxidants of blueberries which lowers your risk of infections and some forms of cancer, MINDBLOWING… it is a great source of iron, providing increased energy, better athletic performance as well as many other things. Its full of magnesium and calcium and is a natural mood elevator too.

 

Spirulina that scary green powder is also a wonderful healthy substitute. It has powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties. It can also lower bad LDL levels reducing the risk of heart disease, and some studies have even shown that it improves muscle strength and endurance.

 

Oats, one of our favourites! They have so many benefits such as being very nutritionally dense with vitamins and minerals. They are rich in antioxidants which reduces blood pressure and they can lower cholesterol levels. They also make you fuller for longer helping you to lose weight.

 

Peanut butter. As well as it being delicious, it suppresses hunger for weight loss, peanuts (in moderation) lower the risk of heart disease, it is full of healthy fat and has a high protein and potassium content.

 

So there are just four of the yummy things we add in at our smoothie bar. So why not make the commitment each week to grab a smoothie after class to aid you in your way to starting and continuing your fitness journey here with us down at SpinEtc.
