Herbalife, slimming world, weight watchers, atkins, paleo, alkaline diets, the grapefruit diet the list could go on and on.

What is it about all these diets that keeps getting the nation to signing up?, Paying a fee and then forgetting about them once they are bored? Well! Now you’ve got me started…

First of all, you obviously haven’t been strict with your own dieting skills and therefore haven’t been successful in losing the weight you oh so much want to drop off. So you’ve now had a look on the internet, or seen an ad pop up on instagram and you’ve been roped into paying a monthly fee for a nationwide diet plan. Lets weigh this up here, you’re an individual, you’re one specific size and weight, you could have allergies or intolerances, yet you’ve opted to go on a diet that the rest of the world is trying out; is this suppose to be one solution for all??

Let’s get something straight, this isn’t a blog to say that you’re not doing a great job. You’ve taken the first steps to realising that you want to lose weight. However, all you really need to do is remain in a calorie deficit! This means that you eat fewer calories than you burn. Simple! To lose one pound of fat a week you’d need to remain in a calorie deficit of 500-700 calories per day.

Do you really need all these diets to help you lose weight? No probably not. You just need to be honest with yourself at what you are actually eating and start to choose healthier alternatives to what you are just grabbing out the snack cupboard.

You can go and workout all you like but if you are not being honest about your calorie intake daily then the fat is not going to come off!

There has been lots of research into ‘diet to workout’ ratio and to be able to lose the weight it has been proven that a staggering 80% of the work is done in the kitchen compared to just 20% in the gym or studio. Now that really shows that eating clean, healthy, wholesome foods are just as beneficial if not more than getting your sweat on.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Right now you’re thinking, but I don’t have time to food prep, or it’s so expensive to make healthy meals. But I can promise you now that this is NOT true! You are your own worst enemy – STOP MAKING EXCUSES!! Get out of this habit!! If you do a little bit of browsing around your local supermarkets I can promise you that you will find some really good and cheap deals for healthy meals and alternatives. It is all about planning and being prepared…

So what now? Well now you go into your cupboards and you have a hard think about what you really need in there. You take the first step to admitting that you don’t actually need these FAD diets, that you can do it alone, and you can be honest with yourself about how much you are actually eating. Cut the bad stuff out and pop the great stuff in instead. Do a little bit of research, or ask us here at the studio for some recommendations on what foods are filling, we are always happy to help.

You need to believe in yourself with dieting, set yourself a goal, take transformation pictures because you are important and you deserve to look and feel good about yourself. You don’t need to pay someone to help you diet, you just need to be honest about whats going in your mouth.

Give it a try, don’t give up at the first hurdle, no one said it would be easy. It takes 21 days to create a habit, imagine what you could do and look like in three months time!
